About the piece
Created around 1650 by Sisto Badalocchio, this Baroque composition features the Virgin Mary and the infant Jesus enthroned on a stone plinth. The scene is framed by Saint Quentin, depicted as a knight in gleaming dark plate armor, and Saint Benedict in traditional clerical vestments. A winged cherub pulls back a golden curtain in the upper left, adding a theatrical, heavenly dimension to the devotional scene set against a darkening sky.
