About the piece

Painted in 1910 during his travels in British East Africa, Akseli Gallen-Kallela captures the luminous atmosphere of the Nairobi outskirts. The composition moves from textured foreground greenery and fruiting trees to a rhythmic line of buildings, all set against the ethereal blue peaks of the distant horizon.
