About the piece
Painted by Antonio Maria Vassallo around 1654, this oil on copper work captures the miracle of Blessed Andrea da Spello. The composition is divided between the earthly miracle below and a luminous celestial vision of the Madonna and Child surrounded by a host of playful cherubs, rendered with the dramatic chiaroscuro and painterly texture characteristic of the Genoese Baroque.
